Clay's Plays 3/20

Well the first day of March Madness was full of upsets, and Clay’s Plays didn’t avoid those upsets either. The bets did not go well, and I apologize for that. These parlays are fun to make for the tournament games, but they are just super unpredictable. That is why today I have two parlays for y’all. One parlay is my traditional parlay, a mix of the 6 best bets I can find across all sports. Then the other parlay is all March Madness predictions, and has by far the biggest payout in Clay’s Play history, winning $660 off of a $10 bet. Let's hope they both hit. Overall Record: 51-29

Parlay 1 (Traditional):

Hurricanes ML (-192)

Avalanche ML (-172)

Panthers ML (-220)

Lightning ML (-250)

BYU ML (-175)

UCSB ML +9.5 (-150)

Parlay 2 (Big pay day):

UCSB ML (+275)

Ohio ML (+260)

USC ML (-270)

Oregon ML (-233)

BYU ML (-175)

UConn ML (-163)

Analysis 1:

Hurricanes had a shocking loss in overtime to the Blue Jackets a couple of knights ago. I do not think they lose two straight home games to the Blue Jackets, and am sending the ‘Canes here.

Avalanche have looked great recently. They are coming off a 5-1 victory over the Wild on Thursday, and play them again tonight. I expect the Avalanche to win this one easily again, take this without a doubt.

Panthers also had a tough loss on Thursday against the Predators. Despite controlling the game, they were only able to score once and lost 2-1. Tonight they go against the Predators once again, and I do not think they lose a second straight home game to them.

Lightning faced the Blackhawks Thursday night and comfortably won 4-2. They face off in Tampa once again tonight, and I expect a similar result to Thursday.

BYU starts their tournament run off today against UCLA. We saw UCLA beat Michigan State two nights ago in comeback fashion. I was shocked UCLA won that game, and I think this will be the end of the road for them. BYU hasn't lost since January, and are coming off a solid loss to Gonzaga recently. They are playing well and should handle a tired UCLA team here.

I think UCSB does not only cover the spread, but I think they win this game against Creighton. They have played great all year, and are gonna be a very tough matchup for Creighton. Creighton just had an awful loss to UConn in the Big East tournament, and are not playing well. I played it safe by taking UCSB covering and buying 2 points, but I would feel pretty comfortable with UCSB ML too here, which is why I have it in the second parlay.

Analysis 2:

As I just discussed above, I like UCSB in this matchup, and that is why I have their ML here. They are a dangerous team going up against a vulnerable team. We saw the upsets yesterday, and expect another one in this game.

I am very hot on Ohio. They have star Jason Preston, who I believe will carry them to victory. He is a guy who is made for the tournament, and it is gonna show in this matchup against Virginia. Virginia is not their typically strong team this year, and they are vulnerable. Ohio will win this game.

USC has a projected top 3 pick in the draft in Evan Mobley. The star center along with his brother are gonna prove too much inside for a Drake team that didn’t look very good at all in the First Four game win. USC has too good of an offense and defense for this Drake team that is missing some key players.

Oregon faces VCU in their first round matchup. VCU does not have a great team this year, and was kind of a surprise to make the tournament. Oregon has the better players, as well as a deeper team. They are a good matchup against VCU, and should take care of business.

Refer to my reasoning in the previous bet for BYU.

UConn is a mystery team in this tournament that I like a lot. They have their star James Booknight after injury, and he makes them a different team. Uconn is hot with him back, winning 7 of their last 9 games. Maryland on the other hand has 13 losses on the season, including some to poor teams. They have also lost 3 of their last 4 games. I like UConn here.
