Red Sox and Yankees, Series Preview
BOSTON, Ma - The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will complete their head-to-head matchups on the 2020 campaign with a series that will begin September 18th, 2020, at Fenway Park, the world’s most beloved ballpark. The Yankees will be making their first trip to Fenway in 2020; the first seven games between the two teams this year were played at Yankee Stadium.
Dominant is certainly a word you can use to describe the Yankees; the team enters this game having won seven games in a row. The Yankees also are undefeated against the Red Sox in 2020, having amassed a 7-0 record. New York currently sits second in the American League East with a record of 28-21, while the Red Sox have the second worst record in the American League at 19-32.
The Yankees have struggled with injuries this year, especially to some of their top players. However, that hasn’t been a problem for their offense. Second baseman D.J LeMahieu and first baseman Luke Voit enter the game as the league leaders in batting average (.373) and home runs (19), respectively. The team has also hit 13 home runs and scored 33 runs in their last two games, some very impressive offensive totals.
The Red Sox walk into Fenway tied for the fewest wins at home this season (8) and lowest home winning percentage (.320). The team’s struggles against the Yankees date back to last season; the Red Sox have lost 10 straight to New York, just two games shy of the Yankees longest winning streak against Boston (12 in 1936 and 1952-1953).
Martin Perez will take the hill for Boston, his team leading 11th start of the season. It is not currently known who will start for the Yankees, but it looks like it will be J.A. Haap, who has only given up three runs in his last two outings.
The game can be watched on TV on YES network as well as NESN at 7:30 pm EST.
